Keeping it Real!

Location is amazing! Food is great, if you don't like something don't complain there is great food available every where! Comfy beds, fantastic ocean view rooms. The staff are just wonderful happy people that go out of their way to get you what you want. Ocean is great it drops down but soft rippled sand on the bottom. Lots of lounge chairs. Nice small resort everything very close! The staff is amazing! Super nice, super helpful and welcoming! Special shout outs to Vicky on the front desk, Francette, Charlene and I forget all the names. They are fantastic from the hostess, to the busboys, managers and everyone in between. We have been here 6x and 7 will be as soon as we can! Love this place! People you have two ways to look at this resort and these comments, you can be positive and look at all the good or you can be negative and look at the bad! People that complain in paradise are looking for perfection, you won't find it anywhere! Tip a few bucks here and there if you have if you have it 😁 Love you all in St Maarten from the Candy Lady ❤️😘

Birthday Vacation

For my dad's 75 we decided to take him to Sonesta Great Bay upon my aunts recommendation.. I have been to St. Maarten many times (12 since 1984) and never stayed there.. I need to say our experience was one of the greatest I have had.. all staff was amazing from servers to front desk, bellman and housekeeping. My husband and dad were newbies to the island and their experience at Sonesta was that they would love to go back.. We were fortunate enough to have the Butler service and I cannot recommend them enough.. they were all great.. the food was amazing at the Bay View buffet, different types food every night.. we ate at the other restaurants and great service and food as well.. the pizza was great for an afternoon snack also. From what i understood from group I was with the nightlife was fun also. The location of hotel is perfect.. if you want you can walk to Phillipsburg which is only 10 minutes. The reason I gave the Sonesta Great Bay a 4 instead of 5 was because the building and rooms need a facelift, they were a bit dated.. but understanding most everything needs to get imported and extremely expensive, I understand.. but a facelift would be great.. I do need to say though lobby area was nicely decorated with a real Caribbean feel. Would definitely go back!

three weeks holiday

The staff is very friendly and helpful. First dinner, we went to the upstairs restaurant. the waitress Macillia. recognized us and she Remembered our drinks that we took last year. This is what I call great service. Congratulations Macillia For breakfast, Jonathan was the best and the lady cook for the eggs was great. There is a new restaurant call On The Rock, nice experience. It is not a super big resort but it is nice. The afternoon, there are activities, bingo, games.

Exactly what we were looking for.

My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon, and it was our first all-inclusive experience. This place was exactly what we needed after the hectic few weeks before the wedding. The resort was just big enough to make it fun, the food was surprisingly tasty, and the nightly entertainment was good. We were away from the craziness of Maho, but close enough to walk into Philipsburg. The room wasn't huge, but it was clean, and the view was amazing. The staff, for the most part, were friendly and professional, even if they did move at a pace most Americans would find brutally slow. There were plenty of chairs and umbrellas for the beach, as well, which was nice. I only had two complaints: First, the gift shop closes surprisingly early, so if you need something like a toothbrush or After Sun, you may be out of luck for the night. Second, our last day we never received any towels, even after calling and visiting the desk to request them. The two of us both had to take showers and all that we had was one hand towel. A couple of things to note: If you are looking for a beach with sugary white sand, go to Orient Beach. Great Bay's beach is made up of crushed shells, which, while still beautiful, could be a bit painful on the feet. Also, the drop off from the sand to the water was quite steep, and the current was very strong. It made climbing out of the water difficult, and we saw several elderly people really struggling. Overall, this was a fun, relaxing place for our honeymoon, and we look forward to returning.

Very disappointing

We made reservations 6 months in advance. When we got there the room we reserved-and paid for--wasn't available. The room we were given was very small. The king bed was 2 double beds. The ocean view was a view of the wall of the pool to the right and the volleyball court on the left. Two requests to be moved were turned down. Made reservations at one restaurant, called to confirm next day and were told it was closed for a wedding party. The entertainment each night was bad at best and so loud we couldn't carry on a conversation on our balcony. Except for the night mgr., the hostess in the buffet restaurant, and the young bartender in the casino bar, the other employees appeared totally unconcerned period. Beach chairs were crammed together around the pool and what few there were on the beach were claimed early and then left and that was acceptable. It wasn't particularly tropical or even Caribbean.in its décor and our room was just plain bland. The Pascitora restaurant food was very good, but the buffet was nothing to brag about except the breakfast which was usually pretty good. We chose this resort from the website. It seems there was a lot of photo shopping there. Unfortunately, there is very little positive I can say about the Sonesta Bay. except that the casino was nice. If you are considering this, please think again. It was a terrible disappointment and wasted money
