Ratings & Reviews
I consider myself a frequent traveler visiting more than 45 cities in the world trying to know cultures and hospedan in different Hotels but this time it is the first one that I feel extremely stressed staying in The Sonesta Maho Hotel . When you get to the lobby you look like the movies of the 80s, not to mention the corridors and facade of public housing in the USA. The buffet was bad, the first day only had chicken, corn, and potato in the restaurat. My room all the time smelled of sewer. The complimentary room only with soda and water. The hotel does not have a beach, it is a public beach and the pools are shared for both hotels. The entertainment and the activities at night inside the hotel are null. The employees are highly rude and in a bad mood all the time. My biggest concern was that at all times they made you feel like a criminal because everyone at the hotel directed you and told you that you could not go to this side and to the other, where you paid for a hotel that is in two facilities together and you feel confused To know what you are On an ocassion between a pool and I was pulled out like a criminal, called security guards and told me that I could not be there because that belonged to another hotel. I am not satisfied with the personal of the property , the manager of the Hotel Ocean Point was very unprofessional to treat the Situation Not the way to promote a hotel and give it a higher category. My concern was all the time knowing where I was because there was no division and the two properties were in the same space sharing almost everything for them to make you feel low category by showing that the Ocean point was superior. I was not interested in the Ocean point Hotel, I wanted to stay in my hotel, I wanted to enjoy the facilities of my hotel. Why do not they put division? I wouldn't recommend this place at all if you are looking for relax.
The hotel is being remodeled; however I didn't hear any construction noise which was good. The room was very clean & bathroom was very modern. Great pool with swim-up bar. Food was average with exception of The Point which was very good. Overall, the service was horrible with a few exceptions. (I'm sorry that I don't remember their names.) Almost impossible to get a refill on drinks, especially a Coke! All restaurants weren't open every evening for dinner. Need to make reservations which was difficult with few restaurants & several resort guests. We loved the resort itself, but everything else was below par. We were told by an outside source that the owner's son had taken over management & they'd heard several complaints about it going down since. The mini bar is stocked daily with rum, vodka, gin, bud light, coke, Diet Coke, sprite & water. Overall, it was a nice stay, but I expected more for the price. If we return to St. Maarten, will look at another resort.
I visited the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort, April 16-23 as this was my 3rd visit I was excited about returning again to the resort, but feel that some things have really changed. 1) The service that I received checking in was fantastic I had my room within an hour after check-in and it was one of the newer updated Oceanview reviews, I highly recommend upgrading. 2) I had an issue with the AC unit in the room, the temperature was not adjusting correctly and the room was way too cold, I did speak to the front desk numerous times about it but there was nothing done about it, it was not unbearable but I would think there would be technicians on-site to troubleshoot. 3) My last 2 visit's the food was awesome! But this time I was really dissapointed with the options at the buffet for dinner, there was not much variety or abundance of food at all! it was very minimal and lots of bare counters, I was not impressed. Also the idea of having closing nights of the restaurants is not the best method either. I did eat off the resort one night due to this, as not everybody loves the certain theme of the buffet. 4) Service was not up to par at the Buffet at breakfast, the one girl working as the greeter as you gave your room number to enter was falling asleep with her head down on the side table , very unprofessional. It took some mornings 20 minutes to have coffee poured at your table!.I never had this kind of service the last few times. 5) The beach attendant for the lounges at the beach was not friendly at all, he one morning was very abrupt with me as I had got a lounge myself as they were un-locked, and noticed they looked annoyed if people were still sitting on the beach at 4:30pm. I will visit this property again! As I love the area! but Perhaps will consider the Ocean Point resort first before considering the regular Maho, I hope that the customer service improves in the near future, and the portions of food improve as well at the buffet as I was not satisfied with the variety like my last 2 visits.
This was our second time at Sonesta Maho and it was my Birthdate week celebration. We got picked to have dinner with the General Manager, Karl who was very gracious and very accommodating. We had such a great time due to his wonderful and exceptional staff, most especially, Anna at the front desk who treated us like family. Felicia at the front bar who gave us good advise with regards to places to visit. And last but not the least was the best bar we've ever come across on any resort, Damion. He was so full of energy and knew exactly when you need a refill. Amazing, amazing resort and staff. I would like to extend my thanks to Karl and staff for a great time!!!
So you want the good news or the bad news? I'll start with the good news, because the good news isn't much to deliver: The weather is perfect. There's beautiful ocean breeze and amazing views of planes landing and taking off. Nightlife is decent but the area is small so nightlife isn't plentiful. The natives are friendly for the most part and the airport is literally a 5 minute car ride so that's convenient. The resort - why don't we rewind to the 1980's, because that's exactly what the lobby looks like. The places only saving grace is that it isn't too crowded, has a daily restocked minibar. There is wifi all over except it's slow as molasses but that's to be expected; it's a resort on an island. From the time you check in, service is much less than stellar. The front desk clerks (especially the females) are rude and unwelcoming. The same goes for the bartenders and waitresses. I understand that they have a hard job working in the sun all day and night, but I also work hard back in my city too. I wouldn't recommend this place at all for the $1,500 I've spent for this trip. The restaurant staff are rude, unprofessional and unorganized with the exception of a FEW. They give nasty looks and speak patois to each other with the belief that I wouldn't understand it. Km the other hand, there's a manager by the name of Pauline from Jamaica. She is patient, respectful and HIGHLY professional and caters to the guests needs! I've been to her home country 4 times and have experienced stellar service. Pauline should leave St Martin and her miserable counterparts behind and seek work in Jamaica or in America. Overall, stay away from Sonesta Maho Beach and run away as fast as you can! The end!
