PHILIPSBURG, St. Maarten (Sept. 27, 2012) - Effective Sept. 30, 2011, the new area code for St. Maarten was changed to 1-721. To call St. Maarten from the United States one would now dial, for example, 1-721-777-7777.
In addition, St. Maarten-based cell phone numbers that previously began with a "555" have been changed to "550." For example, if the cell phone number was 555-1212, it will now be 550-1212 (from the United States, callers would now dial: 1-721-550-1212).
On-island calling to landlines (non cell phones) will remain unchanged and persons and businesses can be reached by dialing the seven-digit local numbers.
